Once Chris Pronger's cap dollars went to LTIR ...

The Flyers recalled center Adam Hall from the Phantoms and signed defenseman Hal Gill to a one-year deal woth $700,000.

Gill will be the 8th defenseman on the club. Roster now set at 23 players.

Well, the trade we all thought was coming with the Flyers to help them shed a defenseman and get under the salary cap never materialized.

Instead the Flyers simply moved a couple players -Adam Hall and Bruno Gervais - to the Phantoms via waivers, then put Chris Pronger on LTIR to retrieve $4.9 million in cap space and get under the cap.

The roster they turned into the NHL today had just 21 players on it. That will grow.

Hall is expected to be recalled to the team on Tuesday. Also, there's a good chance that defenseman Hal Gill signs a contract by Wednesday's opener against Toronto.

With Pronger's money off the cap, the Flyers have room to maneuver.
