The Buffalo Sabres have waived veteran D Alex Sulzer. If he clears waivers, he will be assigned to AHL Rochester.

To no one's surprise, the Sabres are committed to keeping rookie D-man Rasmus Ristolainen. They will be holding pat on Mark Pysyk, which makes Sulzer expendable. By waiving Sulzer, righty Jamie McBain has made the Buffalo roster. McBain was acquired in the Andrej Sekera trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Sabres roster will be finalized on Monday. presumably, Sulzer will clear his waivers and will skate in Rochester this season.

Sulzer suffered a major knee injury last February. He underwent surgery to repair the damage. The Sabres signed the UFA to a one year deal in July.

Sulzer came to Buffalo from Vancouver in the Cody Hodgson, Marc Andre Gragnani trade.

As it stands right now, the Sabres have 24 players on their roster. Including rookie forwards Zemgus Girgensons and Johan Larsson. Brian Flynn is also on the bubble.

Right now, veterans Kevin Porter and Cody McCormick are still Sabres as they would have been required to clear waivers in order to get to Rochester. Because they were not exposed to waivers, they will not have to clear through the process to get to the Amerks. The waiver clearance deadline is Noon EDT on Monday.

Injured players Joel Armia (broken hand) and Corey Tropp (broken jaw) are on injured reserve.

Darcy Regier will have a tough decision to make as he decides which of the young forwards that he will be sending to Rochester. The final cut will be one of three kids. Zemgus Girgensons, Jonan Larsson, or Brian Flynn?

I have zero hesitation telling you that I would send Flynn down before I would send Girgensons or Larsson down.

Both rookies deserve a roster spot as they have played exceptionally well in training camp and both killed it at the Traverse City tourney.

Flynn showed traces of offense last season in Buffalo after Ron Rolston was hired as interim head coach after Lindy Ruff was fired on 2/22/13. Flynn and Kevin Porter became go-to guys under their former Amerks head coach Rolston. Flynn plays 5 on 5 and PK. feel like he'd be more valuable as a veteran leader in Rochester what with teh losses of Tropp and Armia. Flynn would add more depth and offense to an Amerks roster that can use some help.

I choose to keep Girgensons and Larsson.

If I had my way, Id send Flynn to the Amerks and keep both Girgensons and Larsson.

Luke Adam has cleared waivers and is now an Amerk
