Sense a Trade is Coming

The Flyers made a bunch of roster moves on Saturday aimed at clearing cap space and helping the cause of one, Scott Laughton.

First, they sent Chris VandeVelde to the Phantoms. Then then placed Bruno Gervais and surprisingly, Adam Hall, on waivers.

What this does is clear a path for Laughton to remain here past his 9 games in October and actually be on the roster the entire season.

It also leaves the Flyers $600,000 /and change over the salary cap. They still have to placed Marc-Andre Bourdon on waivers but that can't happen until Oct. 2.

It certainly seems a trade is coming, especially, because GM Paul Holmgren tabled a decision on Hal Gill until Sunday which would imply moving a defenseman either Saturday or Sunday - Andrej Meszaros?

The Meszaros to Colorado for John Mitchell now makes more sense given these moves. Mitchell played mostly left wing last season.

That alone would wipe $4 million off the books.

And Holmgren made it very clear on Friday night in Washington that he would like to keep Gill around as a 7th defenseman.

Something has to give this weekend.
