Anaheim Ducks Trim Roster to 32; Shea Theodore Sent Back to WHL

The Anaheim Ducks have until Monday to cut their training camp roster down to the required 23 for the start of the 2013-14 NHL season. On Thursday they sent three more camp hopefuls packing and back to where they once belonged.

That brings the number of players remaining in camp to 32 - 19 forwards, 10 defensemen and three goaltenders.

Here is a breakdown of yesterdays moves and my thoughts on them. (Note: Had there been more cuts I would have skipped my thoughts because that's too much thinking for one day.)

Assigned to Norfolk (AHL)
Frederik Andersen - Goaltender

- I thought Anderson had a good camp. The Ducks certainly gave him a good look. Unfortunately he is the low man on the depth chart and there simply is not a spot to be had. Should the Ducks need him, Andersen could be a good call-up option during the regular season.

Released from pro tryout and assigned to Norfolk (AHL)
Garnet Exelby – Defenseman

- Simply didn't cut the mustard. Again, this team is rich in young defenders and at this level you have to stand out and Exelby was virtually invisible.

Assigned to Seattle (WHL)
Shea Theodore – Defenseman

- The ink hadn't even dried yet on the 18-year-old's ELC and he was assigned back to his WHL team. That really doesn't comes as a surprise. Theodore is very talented, but still a wee bit green around the gills. He needs a few years to mature and completely round his game into NHL form. I'm already looking forward to seeing you at camp next year Shea.

With only a few days left to set the rosters for opening night, I would expect more cuts by today. But, who are the dead men walking?

Who do you think has earned a regular season look and who is expendable? Inquiring minds want to know!
