PREVIEW 11:40 PM (9/22/13)

Playing their first preseason game action in a week, the Philadelphia Flyers return to the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night to take on the New Jersey Devils. Game time is 7 p.m. EDT. The game will be broadcast locally on The Comcast Network and nationally on NHL Network.

The Flyers enter this game with a 1-2-1 mark in the preseason. The Devils, who lost 3-2 in regulation against Montreal on Monday, are also 1-2-1. Last night, Rostislav Olesz and Adam Larsson scored in a losing cause for New Jersey. Martin Brodeur stopped 22 of 25 shots. Ryan White's tip-in of a point shot with 3:52 left in regulation sealed the win for the Habs.

For much of the last week, the Flyers have been training and doing off-ice team bonding activities in Lake Placid, NY. The club returned home yesterday. There is a chance that team captain Claude Giroux (right index finger tendon surgery) could play his first game of the preseason but that decision will not be made until some point on Tuesday.

Over Philadelphia's remaining three games of the preseason, head coach Peter Laviolette will likely try to take another look or two at roster bubble players -- forwards Michael Raffl, Chris VandeVelde and Scott Laughton and defensemen Hal Gill, Bruno Gervais and Oliver Lauridsen.

This game marks the final home match of the Flyers' preseason slate. Philadelphia will rematch with the Devils in Newark on Thursday and then head to DC on Friday to close out the preseason against the Capitals. The next time the Flyers play in the Wells Fargo Center will be when they opening the regular season against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 2.

TUESDAY QUICK HITS

* The Adirondack Phantoms opened their training camp in Glens Falls, NY, on Monday. The team's first exhibition game will be on Saturday, Sept. 28 at home against the Albany Devils, followed by a road match against the Utica Comets late the next afternoon. The regular season starts on Sat., Oct 5, with a road game against the Hershey Bears.

Below is the Phantoms roster at the start of training camp. Note: roster does not include Chris VandeVelde and Eric Wellwood, who are both currently signed to AHL contracts. VandeVelde is still in NHL camp with the Flyers, vying to have his AHL-only deal replaced by an NHL contract. Wellwood, who is recovering from two surgeries to repair various severed tendons and an artery in his right leg, is currently assisting the OHL's Windsor Spitfires and has done some light skating but is still a long way from being ready to return to the ice in a playing capacity.

Additionally, defenseman Oliver Lauridsen is still with the Flyers. Assuming he does not make the NHL's teams opening-night roster, he will rejoin the Phantoms.

GOALTENDERS: Yann Danis, Cal Heeter, Carsen Chubak.

DEFENSEMEN: Mark Alt, Brandon Manning, Matt Konan, Maxim Lamarche, Steven Delisle, Cullen Eddy, Tyler Hostetter, Mark Nemec (tryout), Lee Baldwin (ECHL contract with Greenville).

FORWARDS: Jason Akeson, Tye McGinn, Nick Cousins,Kyle Flanagan, Kris Newbury, Marcel Noebels, Petr Straka, Ben Holmstrom, Brandon Alderson, Tyler Brown, Rob Bordson, Andrew Johnston, Matt Mangene, Derek Mathers, Zack FitzGerald, Doug Clarkson, Guillaume Asselin (ECHL contract with Greenville), Jordie Johnston (ECHL contract with Greenville), Jean-Michel Rizk (ECHL contract with Greenville).

* The Flyers second-round draft pick in the 2013 draft, Robert Hägg, is in action on Tuesday. The defenseman's Modo Hockey club will play host to Frölunda HC Gothenburg. Game time will be at 1 p.m. EDT and a stream should be available here.

* Taylor Leier and the Portland Winterhawks are also in action on Tuesday, taking on the Tri-City Americans. Game time is 10 p.m. EDT. A webcast for $6.99 is available here.

* TODAY IN FLYERS HISTORY: On this day in 1975, the Flyers signed young defenseman Terry Murray as a free agent. He dressed for three games for the big club in the 1975-76 season. Murray eventually spent 115 games at the NHL level for Philadelphia over two playing stints in the organization. Later, he became the Flyers head coach (1994-95 to 1996-97), leading the club to its first Stanley Cup Final since 1987 but was fired shortly after Detroit swept the Flyers in the Finals. Murray subsequently served two stints as a Flyers pro scout (1997-98 and 2001-02) and was an assistant coach to Ken Hitchcock and John Stevens from 2003-04 to 2007-08. After leaving the organization again to accept the Los Angeles Kings' head coaching job, Murray returned last season to serve as head coach of the AHL's Phantoms.
