The Maple Leafs 5-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday night was overshadowed by a third period line brawl that resulted in multiple expulsions from the game and could lead to possible suspensions for two Toronto top six forwards; Phil Kessel and David Clarkson.

Following a fight between Jamie Devane and Buffalo’s Corey Tropp, Sabres coach Ron Rolston put out enforcer John Scott, who proceeded to line up against Kessel for the faceoff. The behemoth Scott dropped his gloves and went after Kessel and the Leaf forward took one swing with his stick at Scott’s leg. After Scott was intercepted by a couple Toronto teammates, Kessel took another swing with his stick at the Sabres forward.

In the process of the melee, Clarkson left the Leafs bench in an attempt to prevent Scott from going after the Leafs best player, but in the process may have denied the team his services for the first ten games of the regular season, which is the automatic suspension for a player leaving the bench.
