Calgary Flames hard hitting defenseman Pat Sieloff experieced a broken cheekbone after taking a hit to the face during a game in Saskatoon.

The 19 year old is still fighting for a chance to make the Flames roster this year and, despite having the injury, will still play tomorrow night. Sieloff will be sporting a full cage due to the injury but says it looks worse than it is, and shouldn't affect the way he plays.

“If they told me I didn't have to wear anything, I would (go without) it, just because it’s more comfortable...A cage is a cage, it kind of gets annoying after a while. I would take it off in a heartbeat.”

Given the style of play which coach Bob Hartley is trying to preach to his young team, Sieloff has a very good chance of extending his experience with the Flames into the regular season if he keeps an up-tempo, hard hitting style of hockey.

If the coaching staff decides that Sieloff will need a little more development however, he should have very good opportunities to go back down and get experience playing in a few leadership roles as the 2012 2nd round pick is a candidate for the US WJC team captain in 2014.

The Calgary Flames will play at home against the New York Rangers tomorrow nigh. The team is likely going to make their final preseason cuts following the game as the AHL training camp has opened this weekend.
