The Calgary Flames have undergone the first two days of training camp thus far and will take to the ice for the first preseason game tomorrow against the Edmonton Oilers at the Saddledome.

Not only is it going to be a big game as the team rivals start things off face to face, but to play in the Saddledome which looked like this a few months ago is quite impressive!

The dome is ready to go with the hard work of all those involved and the fans and players are amped up to get going again. The Flames have had a few practices and scrimmages so far as the team gets to know all the new faces. Below are a few comments from non-other than our own jtommyt who took time out of his day to watch and take notes of the scrimmage.

**

Game 1
Glenny already has 2 goals. Him, Stajan and Stemper are by far the most dangerous line on the ice. Nemisz also has a goal. All 3 were scored on Joey Mac.

Berra hasn't really been tested, but he's stopped everything that's come his way.

O’Brien is super vocal out there, clearly embracing the role of leader and mentor for the young guys.

Sieloff's playing with a real edge, not lining guys up for the big open ice hit, but definitely playing tough along the boards and in front of the net.

Corban Knight's playing with David Eddy and Paul Byron... makes me think he hasn't necessarily locked up a spot yet.

Begin scored on a deflection. Knight with a rocket wristshot... both goals on Berra. Ortio only played for half the game but shut them out and looked solid yet again.

Cammy and Jones seem to be a pretty consistent winger pairing. Monahan and Backlund rotated through the middle. Not a ton of chemistry there yet at this point. Cammy didn't get the puck very often and Jones seems to be playing on the outside a lot, not driving to the net.

Monahan looked good out there, generating chances... but seems to get knocked down a lot. When Ferland continues to impress without being flashy... almost every shift seemed to end in the offensive zone.

Wotherspoon looks calm and confident. He was paired with Gio which probably helps, but his passes were crisp and on target and he moves the puck quickly.

Game 2
It's 1-0 for team red off a scramble goal by Hanowski. Ramo's looked good in this one and had the first 2 before it was shoveled past him. Berra's solid at the other end. Baertschi and Granlund have both stood out offensively for team black. Cundari, Russell, and Ramage all look really good on the back end. They're going to make it tough on the coaching staff...

Stajan might be the best player on the ice in this one... he's playing with tons of confidence.
Game 2 ends 2-0.

Berra had a shutout, Ramo and Brossoit split the other end of the ice and each allowed 1 goal. All 3 goaltenders played really well.

Bouma was strong all game. Baertschi and Galliardi look great on a line together. Granlund continues to look strong.

The surprise of the day to me was the effectiveness of the Hanowski, Nemisz, Blair Jones line. They consistently carried play and contributed 2 goals for the Red squad between the 2 games. Creating opportunities through hard work, a strong cycle and traffic in front.

Again, thanks to Jason for the updates! I will have more coverage for you as things progress.

There have been reports that the Calgary Flames will be unveiling a new third jersey for the 2013-14 NHL season. Sportslogos.net was first to make the claim as they were informed around 6 months ago but kept quiet until now.

In addition, there have been many fans who noticed that in the recent launch of NHL 14, the Flames have an alternate jersey option which remains locked. Some feel that it may be nothing more than an EA Sports feature for the game, but most sense that they are also in the know. The Flames have had several different jerseys over the years, and with the amount of change that has come about for the organization over the past two years, I get the feeling that the third jersey could be an interesting one.

Below is a breakdown of the jersey’s worn by the club in recent years and there appears to be minimal difference between each, save for the horse head logo of course. The only real differences between most jerseys are color changes and lines across the arms and lower half of the jersey. I get the feeling that this new third jersey might sport a newer look than previous years have displayed, given the current direction of the franchise.

As mentioned, there is minimal difference between the jersey’s as is common with most teams throughout the years. I am not entirely sure what to expect this year, however this will be the 3rd time the team has offered a new alternate jersey in their 32 years as a franchise and it happens to be one particular year where owners and management have expressed that they are looking to “reinvent” the club, in a sense.

Below are a few concepts I found over the internet. I would also like to poll your opinions below for the best of the concepts!
