Are the Vancouver Canucks interested in Damien Brunner?

They just might be.

Unrestricted free agent Damien Brunner is talking with a few teams about his services and one of them may be the Canucks, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

Brunner, 27, scored 12 goals and recorded 26 points in 44 regular season games with the Detroit Red Wings last season. He also picked up nine points (five goals, four assists) in 14 playoff games.

Due to the Red Wings lack of cap space and plethora of signed forwards, Brunner was forced to move on this summer after not accepting their original offer.

With David Booth not cleared to play and the injury history behind him, it might make sense to bring Brunner on for some insurance. That said, signing Brunner would all but kill any chance of a young player like Nicklas Jensen or Hunter Shinkaruk making the team out of camp. The Canucks have been adamant about inserting some youth into their lineup this season so I'm not sure bringing Brunner in makes sense.

Brunner is a good player, but signing him would go against what the Canucks have said they'd like to do all summer.
