Ryan Miller is pleased to be back in Buffalo. His 11th season with the Buffalo Sabres begins on Thursday.

Miller is now a renter. He sold his downtown Buffalo home at the end of the 2013 season. Miller says his decision to sell the house was purely business, not personal. He wants a home that he can raise a family in, not a townhouse like the one that the one that he sold. Miller sold the residence so that he didn't get low-balled. He did not lose money on the deal.

Take a listen.

Miller says that he will remain positive and be the best goaltender that he can be despite being in the final year of his contract. Miller says that he has to go out and perform, play, and prove himself all over again.

Miller says that he likes the energy and the attention to detail that he has been experiencing in Buffalo since he returned from from his off season home in Los Angeles last week.

Thomas Vanek's curiosity has been piqued by the young guns in Buffalo system. Vanek says that the Buffalo's goal tending and D corps are solid, however, the biggest question surrounding the Sabres this season is how well will the forwards play?

Vanek is taking a wait and see approach to gauge whether or not the Sabres have the soldiers that it will take to get the team nack into the playoffs after sitting out the postseason the past two seasons.

Vanek also said that he would be honored to wear the "C" in Buffalo this season.

Updated 7:21pm EDT:

Cody Hodgson burned the bridge!

Kypreos reports that Hodgson's deal is worth $25.5M, which equates to $4.25 AAV. Talk about a value contract!

Updated 7:09pn EDT:

Hodgson will have an aanual cap hit of $4.5 million. This according to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos.

6 years, $27 million for the Sabres center.

I like the contract because when the cap rises to $80 million or so in the nest three years, Hodgson $4.5 million cap hit will be a true value for a #1 or #2 center.

Steve Ott and Jay McKee offer their congrats to Hodgson on the new contract:

Cody Hodgson signs a 6 year contract. Dollars not known at this time.

Did he get the Adam Henrique deal? 6 years, $24 million. Derek Roy blue light special?

Hodgson is burning the bridge contract down.

At his Wednesday morning media briefing, Darcy Regier mentioned that he and Hodgson's agent, Ritch Winter, were having conversations about a short term and a long term deal.

Regier also said that he was hoping to have Hodgson in the ice for the beginning of Sabres training camp on Thursday morning.

Hodgson will not have to worry about negotiating another contract until he is 29 years old.

How disappointed are former RFAs Nazem Kadri, Mikkel Boedker, and Marcus Johansson right now? All have three forwards signed two year bridge deals in the past week.

NY Ranger RFA center Derek Stepan is looking for a long term deal like that of Henrique and Hodsgon.

Here's the officoal release from teh Buffalo Sabres;

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced the team has signed forward Cody Hodgson to a long-term multi-year contract extension.

“We are extremely excited to have signed Cody to a long-term deal,” Regier said. “We feel he is going to be an important piece of our organization’s success in the future and look forward to watching him develop as a player.”

Hodgson (6'0", 194 lbs., 2/18/90) appeared in all 48 games in 2012-13, finishing second among all Sabres skaters with 15 goals and 34 points.\

In parts of four NHL seasons, the Toronto, Ontario native has appeared in 139 games between the Sabres and Vancouver Canucks, tallying 77 points (35+42).
