The Hawks made a couple of announcements yesterday.

The first is the signing of 2012 first round pick Teuvo Teravainen to a 3 year ELC.

If there is a bright shining star on the Hawks' horizon it is the 19 year old Finnish C/W. Teravainen possesses all the tools you want in a top 6 forward: vision, hands, shot, passing, 360 degree skating and hockey sense. Further, Teravainen's stock appears to be trending even more upward after a dominant performance at a recent international junior tourney in Lake Placid, NY.

The only knock on him at this point is his size and physical maturity, but it is widely expected that natural growth, training and one more year playing in Finland will have him ready for North American hockey by 2014-2015.

The Hawks also announced they will participate in the London (ON) Prospects Tourney, September 5-8, fielding a team of top prospects versus those of Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Toronto. In the past, these types of tourneys have gone along way toward identifying both contenders and pretenders among AHl and junior level prospects.

The Hawk roster will include the usual suspects—Danault, McNeill, Olsen, Nordstrom—and a few notable and interesting names such as Drew Leblanc, Russian winger Maxim Shalunov and 6'9" Swedish defenseman Viktor Svedberg.

All for now,

JJ
