Training camp opens up in a month and the Calgary Flames still haven't named their new captain.

While it is possible that the team will use an extra assistant throughout the season, one has to imagine they'll elect to choose a new captain. Doing so would allow them to get full closure from Jarome Iginla's time in Calgary.

There are a couple good candidates on the team, but I'm in the belief that Mark Giordano is the favorite to wear the "C" on his jersey this season and for years to come. Giordano wears his heart on his sleeve, plays tough minutes in all situations every night and is locked up through 2015-16.

To me, he's the perfect guy to take over as captain. It'll be interesting to see if Bob Hartley and the Flames coaching staff feel the same way.
