Do the Anaheim Ducks Have a Next Move? Penner?

UPDATE:

From my blog to Murray's ears...It sounds like Dustin Penner is very close to re-joining the Ducks. Penner played in 101 games for the Ducks between 2005 and 2007, collecting 33 goals and 19 assists before the famous offer sheet fiasco with the Edmonton Oilers sent him to Alberta.

Penner has the distinction of being the only player to win two Stanley Cups with teams located in Southern California. He won with the Ducks in 2007 and the Kings in 2012.

Stay Tuned!

The Anaheim Ducks made a splash earlier in the month by trading away perennial 30-goal scorer Bobby Ryan. Since then, not much has happened.

Yes, Matt Beleskey signed an extension. Yes, Saku Koivu is back for another year and yes the Ducks have retained some of their AHL depth, but what happens next?

The Ducks have 22 players under contract for next season and nearly $8 million in cap space. It appears GM Bob Murray is playing his cards close to the vest. The team seems to be waiting for Teemu Selanne to decide if he's staying or going before they make another move. But, is that the best course of action for a team that overachieved this season? Is the current roster good enough to be competitive for a full 82-game season?

My hope is that Murray and company are not basing the rest of their summer plans on a 43-year-old's return. Granted, it's Selanne, but he is 43 and he already looked slow to me last season. So, there's that...

There are several decent free agents left on the market and with room under the cap is it worth trying to bring in some additional depth. Or should the team continue to wait and see?

What do you think?
