Benn Ferriero
I don't mind the signing of Ferriero. I think he could make things interesting in the completion for the bottom-6. He has pretty good speed, doesn't mind hitting and seems like a quality guy, that worst case scenario; he could go back and forth between Utica and Vancouver. He had seven goals in 35 games in 11/12, so maybe he fits in as a smaller, more offensively gifted Dale Weise.

Brandon DeFazio
This is one I really don't get, but time will tell I suppose. If Gillis wanted some size and toughness for Utica, there are a lot of guys still out there that have more upside than DeFazio. From the looks of the clips, he's a less talented Dale Weise. While I like that he's willing to drop the gloves for his teammates, from what I've seen, he'd be better off leaving them on.

Bargain Guys

Josh Brittain- 6'5, 230 lbs winger. He scored a bit in Junior and is still fairly young. There might be some upside there.

Akim Aliu- I'm a little shocked he isn't a Canuck yet. Dave Gagner has been a very big fan of his and he has the size, youth and a bit of nastiness that Gillis is looking for.

Jamal Mayers- Old, but still one tough SOB

Theo Peckham- Oilers fans say he's out of shape in a major way. I always tough he was a tough 5/6/7 guy. Might make a good reclamation project.

Colten Teubert- Tough as nails guy, that has bounced around far too much for anyone to reach their potential. This is a guy that with some structure, coaching and consistency could pay off big-time.

Stefan Legein- Five or six years ago this guy was the next Matt Cooke type player. A two-way deal at the NHL minimum is fairly low risk, high reward.

Joel Broda- Broda is the kind of guy that you win with on your fourth-line. Physical and all heart.

Matt Pelech- He can fight and he's Gillis nefew…enough said.

Ian Cole- Another first round pick from and few years back that was being projected as having a bright future. I've always thought he was a solid shutdown guy.

Tim Brent- The perfect fourth-line guy.

Bobby Sanguinetti- Gillis has been rumoured to like him in the past. He's right-handed and he can play the power-play. He might be a good guy to have in the system for when Tanev gets hurt.

Ian Schultz- He was once the toughest guy in the WHL. That says a lot to me and he would make for a better tough guy in Utica than DeFazio.
