Big Trades Coming to Alberta? Phaneuf to NJ (e3) |

Talked yesterday to a source at the NHL and another in California both of whom said they had heard the Oilers were working on a big deal NOT involving Ales Hemsky. Later in the evening the same California source told me the Flames and Caps also had discussions over the past three days and that the Devils and Blues continue to talk.
This is not to say the Oilers aren't talking about a Hemsky trade, because I have little doubt they are. This is more to say that another deal is in the works. What we don't know of course is whether the deals are either/or deals or not. It certainly appears at this point both options are being explored...
"As we have heard a few times since the Cup Final, MacT has some serious options that he is quite happy about...Horcoff is 1 of 3, or even 4, options. He is not done."
The Calgary/Washington talks center around a D-man heading to Washington with the return of "a significant prospect +"
Also, the assumption the Devils are going to use the cap space to replace Kovalchuk at forward may be mistaken... I am hearing of talks between NJ and Toronto that center around Dion Phaneuf. Never underestimate defense and toughness to Lou.
more to come..
