Random; Almost Like I'm Just Making Things Up

- The Dustin Penner signing thing: Hilarious. How long are people going to keep running with this joke? Not that I'm complaining. I know good comedy when I hear it.

- But if the Oilers were to sign Penner, what would that say about management? No other better options, or just not trying hard enough.

- This blog doesn't have a real start to it. I didn't feel like writing one.

- Please stop suggesting the Oilers sign Damien Brunner. We don't need another little guy, and if we did, we'd just play Linus Omark or Toni Rajala this season. No one takes Omark or Rajala seriously, so why should we want Brunner?

- Brunner wants $3mil+ per season, just so you know.

- Oscar Klefbom is ready for top four minutes in the NHL. He's so far ahead of everyone else in development camp, it's ridiculous. It was so blatant, the Oilers really can't stick NSchultz, Smid, Ference or anyone else ahead of him on the depth chart. There's opportunity in this. Do a magic trick and turn a left-shot defenseman into a forward.

- Considering the rush of inactivity in making a deal to help the club, why don't we just take another look at Ales Hemsky or Nail Yakupov playing LW on the 2nd line?

- Thomas Vanek: I'll see your Smid, and raise you a Hemsky.

- Ryan Miller. Worst. Attitude. Ever. A pretty good goalie, though.

- Shawn Horcoff put on a Dallas jersey and the team is already -1.

- Lindros will never been added to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Never. Why? NHLPA stuff. Look it up. He'll never be forgiven. Buzz Hargrove. Bunch of other jerks. Donald Fehr. Lockout. Bane of the NHL's existence. You don't reward traitors.

- Oilers forward depth at development camp sucked worse than gravity.

- I heard Darnell Nurse was okay. Just okay.

- Bring back the Oilers gears jersey before it's too late.

- Ryan Smyth is not going to play 40 games this season. Where does he fit?

- If Jagr is out, and Morrow is out, and Raymond is out, and Penner is out, and Mueller is out too, what exactly am I going to be blogging about for the next two months?

- And why is Jagr out, and Morrow out, and Raymond out and Mueller out?

- I'm hearing Mikhail Grabovski is not even a consideration. Weird. I don't really see him being any better or worse than Sam Gagner. Sign Grabo, deal Gags, bring in a decent LW. Oilers management need to quit acting like a nerds collecting Magic the Gathering cards. It's not going to unravel the fabric of the universe if we deal a good player to get a different good player. Honest.

- Hockey Hall of Fame: Who actually cares? No one. But at least they got it right picking Shanahan, Neidermayer and Chelios.

- Milan Hejduk told the Avs he isn't coming back. Can he play the left wing? Better question: Are the Oilers that desperate? Likely not.

- I keep getting asked how Oilers will finish this season. Hmmm...14 teams in the new Western Conference (or whatever they're calling it). Oilers better than Flames and Avalanche. I know that off the top of my head. I need to make a list to sort out how I feel about the rest.

As the rosters stand now:

1. St. Louis Blues
2. Chicago Blackhawks
3. Los Angeles Kings
4. San Jose Sharks
5. Vancouver Canucks
6. Anaheim Ducks
7. Minnesota Wild
8. Columbus Blue Jackets
9. Edmonton Oilers
10. Nashville Predators
11. Dallas Stars
12. Phoenix Coyotes
13. Colorado Avalanche
14. Calgary Flames

Oilers will pass the Jackets on this list provided they find a decent 2nd line LW and a decent 3rd line RW. Might even move past the Wild.
