Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I'm your host, Travis Yost.

A few days back, we looked at one of the big summer trades between the Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars. 62% of you believe that Dallas -- who received Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley, and Ryan Button -- made out better in the deal.

Today, we look at another blockbuster that occurred on day one of free agency, this one between the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators.

Mere hours after seventeen-year veteran Daniel Alfredsson headed to the Detroit Red Wings for a shot at the Stanley Cup, Ottawa GM Bryan Murray decided to pull the trigger on a major trade, acquiring highly-touted winger and four-time thirty-goal scorer Bobby Ryan in a package deal.

It breaks down as follows:

ANAHEIM RECEIVES
F Jakob Silfverberg
F Stefan Noesen
2014 1st Round Pick

OTTAWA RECEIVES
F Bobby Ryan

Unlike the Boston/Dallas swap, this one seems to have a larger gray area. Jakob Silfverberg was solid in his rookie season with Ottawa, and projects as a top-six winger. However, there's not a large enough sample size to know whether he can exceed early projections, or fall short of them after jumping over from the SEL last year.

Beyond Silfverberg, the team came up Stefan Noesen, who has had three big seasons with Plymouth of the OHL. His worst year of the three, however, came in 2012-2013.

Anaheim will get the first-rounder next year, but if Ottawa figures to return for the post-season for a third-straight year, it's likely that it will be a mid or late-round selection.

The Q: Did Ottawa give up too much for Bobby Ryan? Is it fair value? Or, did Ottawa steal a certifiable first-line talent for an unspectacular haul?
