When free agency opens up at noon eastern time, 9:00 pacific, players can officially sign contracts, should they desire.

Several teams are expected to be active today; including the Calgary Flames.

Jay Feaster has made it well known he's looking to improve his team, and most notably upgrade at the center position.

There are plenty of good centers available including Mikhail Grabovski, Stephen Weiss, Tyler Bozak and Mike Ribeiro, among others.

Some of the asking prices for these players are much more than they're worth, but given the Flames eagerness to sign a top-6 center or two, I could see Feaster overpaying to get what he wants.

He has plenty of cap space, and I'm sure he's more than willing to use it.

I'm all for getting a center or two so Sean Monahan doesn't have to be rushed into the NHL out of necessity, but rather will be on the team only if he earns the position and shows he's ready.

It sounds like the Flames have plenty of lines in the water. It'll be interesting to see if they can catch a big fish.
