There have been a lot of trade rumors surrounding the Calgary Flames over the last 48 hours so today I'm just going to dive right in with my thoughts.

- One rumor that was brought up by one of my colleagues at TheHockeyGuys, Dustin Leed, generated a lot of talk last night. In case you didn't see it, Leed was reporting that the Flames were involved in trade talks with the Philadelphia Flyers, presumably about Matt Read.

In case you don't know the back story, Flames assistant GM, John Weisbrod, targeted Read when Weisbrod was with the Boston Bruins back in 2009. Read received several offers, but elected to sign with the Flyers.

With Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Claude Giroux, etc. needing new contracts next summer, the Flyers will have a tough time re-signing Matt Read, who will become an unrestricted free agent.

Elliotte Friedman has also written that the Flames are intrigued by Read in one of his previous '30 thoughts' columns.

The Flames certainly have the cap space to re-sign Read and they could definitely use his offense so he could be a fit. The question is, would Read be willing to re-sign in Calgary and what will the cost be to get him?

This will be something interesting to follow over the next day or two.

- As you all know, the Vancouver Canucks are having a heck of a time trading Roberto Luongo. Nobody wants his contract, and anyone willing to take it won't pony up the assets that Mike Gillis expects in return, as you'd expect. For whatever reason, Gillis thought he could get a couple young, affordable and productive players for Luongo.

At this point, it looks like Gillis is just realizing that's not going to happen.

Gillis, now, is looking at alternatives in the event that he can't move Luongo. Gillis doesn't want to just buy him out and lose a good goaltender for nothing, so Cory Schneider could be in play, according to Darren Dreger.

Dreger noted that the Edmonton Oilers are among the teams interested in his services. Another team that should be interested is the Flames.

The Flames have some appealing assets, notably three first round picks, and they should undoubtedly at least call about Schneider's services.

Schneider is still in his 20's and would certainly stabilize the Flames goaltending situation going forward. Would the Canucks want to move Schneider to a divisional opponent? Not likely, but they have to make the best deal for the team and if the Flames offer a nice package, which they are capable of, the Canucks might just pull the trigger.

- This rumor just came way out of left field but apparently the Boston Bruins have made Tyler Seguin available.

There's been some questions about a potential hip problem but if he's available, the Flames should absolutely pick up the phone and inquire about Seguin.

Seguin is 21 years old and the best days for him are ahead. He is a guy that would immediately become the best forward, perhaps player, on the team and would be an excellent building block going forward. Seguin has scored 45 goals and has 99 points in his last 129 regular season games and has playoff experience.

Dreger is reporting it would take a "kings ransom" to land Seguin. There are rumors of the Tampa Bay Lightning being heavily involved, which makes me think the 3rd overall pick would be involved in talks.

Of course from a Flames perspective, that means it will take 6th overall + to get Seguin.

Obviously a deal between Calgary and Boston is unlikely to be made, but Jay Feaster has shown that when he wants a player or asset, he's willing to pay a heck of a price to try and get it.

- For those wondering, the Flames have the following picks in tomorrow's draft:

1st - 6th overall
1st - 22nd overall
1st - 28th overall
3rd - 67th overall
5th - 135th overall
6th - 157th overall
7th - 187th overall
7th - 198th overall

I'll be running an all day draft blog tomorrow. It will start before the draft and I'll be updating it regularly until the draft is over with all of the Flames selections, trades, etc.

It should be a fun day so stick around and check back often. Be sure to follow me on Twitter (link above) as well.

I examine who the Flames should select 6th overall.
