The Tampa Bay Lightning has asked me to be a part of the organization’s Blogger Roundtable. This new feature, which has a number of independent writers weigh in on issues surrounding the team, will be a weekly column on the team’s website.

Today's question has to do with the team's third overall pick. This weekend's draft is going to be huge for the Lightning. With so many quality players slated to be available in the three slot, the team has a real opportunity to add a player who could have an immediate impact. Below, I've posted my response to the question. You can check out the rest of the responses right here before having your say in the poll at the bottom of the page!

...Which Top-5 projected draft pick (Seth Jones, Nate Mackinnon, Jonathon Drouin, Aleksander Barkov, Valeri Nichushkin) [would you] most like to see the Lightning select with the third overall pick?

As the question implies, the Lightning are poised to land a mighty good player in the three spot at this year's draft regardless of whose name gets called. Given that the team has a bevy of young offensive talent either on the roster or coming up with the Syracuse Crunch, the obvious pick, in my opinion, is Seth Jones. The Lightning does not have a defensive prospect like Jones; most teams don't. Adding Jones's size, offensive instincts, and skating ability to a core that already boasts Victor Hedman would truly solidify the blue line for years to come. Landing him would make the team's already promising future that much brighter.

Stay tuned for more from the roundtable as the Lightning move through the draft and into free agency.

As always, thanks for reading.

The Lightning announced that they have re-signed Keith Aulie with a one-year, one-way deal. Aulie, who was acquired in a trade that sent Carter Ashton to the Maple Leafs two seasons ago, played 45 games with the team this past year and put up seven points.
