Trying to figure out Pascal Dupuis' value has been a popular subject when talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins. There is no doubt that Dupuis has been playing way under market level for the past two seasons. Just how much of a bargain has Dupuis been?
I am borrowing a concept from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette's, Seth Rorabaugh. He broke down Kris Letang's value amongst other defenseman that were similar statistically and it was very well done.
You can find that here.
Below is a chart that shows NHL leaders in even strength points for the past two seasons. It will also include each players' cap hit for the 2013-2014 season.
As you can see from the chart Pascal Dupuis is in some very impressive company. What you will also notice is the significant cap hits that accompany a player playing at such a high level at even strength.
The average cap hit for 2013-2014 amongst players on this list is $6,550,000. A far cry from Dupuis' $1,500,000 from the past two seasons.
When looking at the information from that chart it really shows how blessed the Penguins have been to get that kind of production from a player with such a low cap hit.
Dupuis cap hit is going up, how high and for who? We have to wait and see.
On a side note it has been reported by Bob McKenzie that Team USA will start to reveal its choices for General Manager and Head Coach for the 2014 Sochi Games. It was popular belief that Ray Shero and Dan Bylsma were strong candidates for each position.
