Reports of Lindy Ruff being hired to coach the Dallas Stars are a little premature. Ruff was in Frisco yesterday for a second interview with recently hired Stars general manager Jim Nill but no agreement has been reached as of yet.
Nill reportedly still wants to interview Grand Rapids Griffins coach Jeff Blashill, with whom he worked in the Detroit organization before Nill left to take the Stars' job. Grand Rapids won the Calder Cup on Tuesday. It is possible that Blashill could be brought in an assistant coach to Ruff if the former Sabres bench boss agrees to become Dallas' head coach. Blashill is also a well-regarded future NHL head coaching candidate and could be an alternative if things don't work out with Ruff.
For his part, Ruff is still reportedly getting interview requests from other NHL teams. As of now, however, the Stars seem to have the inside track and an announcement of Ruff's hiring could be coming very soon.
