The Sharks and Red Wings got an early start in locking up their star players to long term contracts.

San Jose and leading goal scorer Logan Couture have agreed on a long term extension and Detroit star Pavel Datsyuk revealed via Twitter this morning that he will be signing to stay with the Wings.

Pierre Lebrun of ESPN indicates that Couture's deal will be five or six years in length, while Datsyuk's extension is reportedly three years.

Both players would have been free agents at the end of the 2013-14 season and cannot officially sign a new contract until early July.
