Mark Streit's New Deal & Martin Vid

While it may not be officially, official, word on the street is that Mark Streit has agreed to a 4 year contract worth $21 million. As his age dictates his contract will count against the cap no matter what. This was the contract that the NY Islanders didn't want to agree to with Streit's agent. But Streit's agent did the best job for his client and now he is set.

Doesn't this remind you of someone else that many of us wanted to remain an Islander -- for the right price? Jason Blake wanted a five year deal and a big payday for his 40 goal season -- his first and last 40-goal season. His agent managed to get it -- out of the Leafs.

Garth Snow didn't want to offer Sean Bergenheim the deal he was looking for, especially after all the drama over the years. He too found the money elsewhere.

When hockey fans talk about the Isles bad moves they are always DiPietro, Chara and Luongo. None of those are on the current GM. So while perhaps the word "genius" is appropriate, you can at least say that Garth Snow sticks to his guns and his plan and refuses to be bullied into deals he doesn't feel represent the best interest of the NY Islanders. Because in all actuality --

That IS all he cares about

Tues, 1:31 pm: You have to hand it to Matt Martin, he's a trooper. Whatever the Isles ask him to do, he does. He just makes the best of whatever they throw at him. Here he is getting ready for a photo shoot for Athlete's Quarterly magazine.

If you watch him for the three seconds they show him getting make-up applied, he's flinching. I'm sure he wanted to just grab the brush and break it. But he sat through all the attention.
