Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ray Shero and Penguins ownership have not decided yet what will become of head coach Dan Bylsma, who has one year remaining in his current contract.
The heavily-favored Penguins were embarrassingly swept out of the playoffs in four games by the less talented, more physical, more systematically-correct Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals
Bylsma was hired midway through the 2009 season. He led his Pens to a Stanley Cup win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Bylsma said Sunday he has not spoken with Shero about his job status. He also pumped the tires of his embattled starting tender Marc Andre Fleury.
Here's what Bylsma had to say about his team's playoff successes and ultimate failures vs. Boston:
Shero is scheduled to hold his annual state of the franchise review media session Wednesday.
Penguins players cleaned out their lockers, participated in exit interviews with Bylsma, then said goodbye for the summer.
Shero will decide Bylsma's future in Pittsburgh, the Tribune-Review reported on Thursday.
Shero will consult with Penguins majority co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle, as well as team CEO David Morehouse.
There's no telling what will happen with Bylsma. His teams have won only one playoff series since winning the Cup on 2009. The ownership continues to spend to the upper limits of the salary cap each season and have stocked the cupboards with talented players and UFAs. One series win since they win the Cup is being viewed as a big blemish on Bylsma's coaching resume.
