Six Years Ago Today: The Anaheim Ducks Become California's First Cup Winner

It was exactly six years today that Scott Niedermayer and the Anaheim Ducks swatted away those pesky Ottawa Senators in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals becoming the first team in the great state of California to win the coveted trophy.

For me it feels like an eternity ago. The team and the league have gone through so many changes. It might as well have been 25 years ago. This seems magnified by the fact that the L.A. Kings are vying for a second consecutive Stanley Cup win.

During the Ducks magical run, they were lead by Ryan Getzlaf and Teemu Selanne. That team had nine players with more than 10 points in the playoffs with Getzlaf, Selanne, Corey Perry and Chris Pronger each collecting at least 15 points.

And let us not forget about Mr. Andy McDonald, who announced his retirement earlier today, and his team leading 10 playoff goals. What a run he had, including a hat trick against Vancouver.

Sparked by the Kings success last spring, I honestly felt the 2012-23 Ducks were built well enough to make a run this year. Again, that doesn't say much because I felt the same way about the 2012-13 New Jersey Devils. But, I digress.

There is always next year....

In case you missed it here is my previous blogged about Jonas Hiller's future with the team.

Should the Anaheim Ducks Consider Moving Jonas Hiller?
