The 2013 NHL Entry Draft is less than a month away and the excitement from fans and everyone involved increases by the day.

The question many New Jersey Devils fans have asked is: who will they select with the 9th overall pick?

Given that this is a very deep draft with tons of top talent, the order in which players will be selected is a big mess after the top-5 picks or so. Someone projected 6th or 7th by many could end up going 10th overall or later and vice versa.

It's almost impossible to narrow it down to one or two players the Devils may select with the 9th overall pick, so here are four candidates (with a quick writeup on each) to be selected by the Devils assuming they don't move the 9th pick.

C Max Domi - London (OHL)

Domi is an excellent skater who can get up and down the ice in a hurry. He's extremely shifty and can cut strides fluently with ease. He has excellent hands, sees the ice well and is one of the best playmakers in this year's draft. He can fill the net, too, and never gives up on a play. He won't back down from anyone, either, despite his small-ish stature.

C Bo Horvat- London (OHL)

Horvat is arguably the best two-way player in this draft class. He plays and excels in all situations. Horvat's an excellent faceoff man and is always on his man in the defensive zone. Offensively, he possesses good puck skills, an above average shot and a very high hockey IQ that allows him to swiftly cut through defenders and get to the area of the ice that will give him the best opportunity to make a play.

C Sean Monahan - Ottawa (OHL)

Monahan is one of the best playmakers in this year's draft class. He sees the ice exceptionally well and can make passes that not many have the ability to make. His hockey sense is through the roof and he possesses a good shot on top of his excellent playmaking ability. He can play in all situations and is most effective on the half-wall on the power play, as that allows him space to dissect defenses and make plays.

LW Hunter Shinkaruk - Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL)

Shinkaruk is a very good offensive player. He's a good skater, can finish plays and put up points in a hurry. Shinkaruk has been compared to former Devils captain, Zach Parise, by man. Shinkaruk's puck pursuit is ferocious and he doesn't get out worked often, especially for a loose puck in the offensive zone. Shinkaruk resembles Parise in both stature and style.

In case you missed it, I looked at the possibility of moving up in the draft and selecting Valeri Nichushkin.

I posted a scouting report on draft eligible forward, Justin Bailey, at TheHockeyGuys. You can view the report here.
