The New Jersey Devils have begun talks with arguably their most important potential UFA, David Clarkson, but have yet to begin talks with potential future Hall of Famer, Patrik Elias, according to NJ.com.

Devils GM, Lou Lamoriello, had this to say when asked about contract talks with Clarkson (quote via NJ.com): "We’ll continue to work on it. We’ve certainly started the process, but until (contracts) are complete there is nothing done,"

There have reportedly been no discussions in terms of dollars with Clarkson and his camp.

My guess is if Clarkson re-signs in New Jersey it'll take about $4.5 million on a multi-year contract while if he tests free agency he'll likely command $5+ million per season.

Meanwhile, Elias' agent, Allan Walsh, did not comment when I asked if reports that talks between Elias and the Devils have yet to begin are true.

Martin Brodeur has eliminated James van Riemsdyk from the NHL14 cover voting and advanced to the final four. Brodeur will take on Detroit Red Wings star, Pavel Datsyuk, in a matchup to advance for a spot in the Final. You can vote for Brodeur here.

I posted a scouting report on potential top-10 pick, Max Domi, at TheHockeyGuys. You can view the report here.
