Apologies in advance for the brevity of today's blog. I have an early morning flight to catch. Later today, the two IIHF World Championship semifinal games will be held in Stockholm. At 9 a.m. EDT, Erik Gustafsson and Team Sweden (6-2-0) take on Finland (7-1-0), while Team USA (6-2-0) plays undefeated Switzerland (8-0-0). Phantoms goalie Cal Heeter is a member of Team USA but has not dressed for a game.

The respective semifinal winners will face off tomorrow for the gold medal at 2:30 p.m. EDT. The defeated teams will play for the bronze medal at 10 a.m. EDT. Tomorrow's blog will round up both semis and preview the medal games.

After being benched in the final three games of the OHL Finals for the eventual champion London Knights, Flyers goaltending prospect Anthony Stolarz returned to the net yesterday to get the start in London's first game of the Memorial Cup in Saskatoon. The Knights downed the Saskatoon Blades, 3-2, with Stolarz turning back 27 of 29 shots in front of a crowd of 10,203 spectators at the Credit Union Centre.

Josh Nicholls tallied both of the Saskatoon goals. Brett Welychka, Seth Griffin and 2013 NHL Draft prospect Nikita Zadorov (game-winning power play goal early in the third period) had the goals for the Knights. Likely 2013 1st round pick Bo Horvat set up the Griffin goal, which put London ahead, 2-1, late in the first period.

Tonight, the WHL champion Portland Winterhawks, featuring likely first overall 2013 Draft pick Seth Jones and Flyers left wing prospect Taylor Leier, take on the QMJHL Champion Halifax Mooseheads, featuring likely second and third overall 2013 draftees Nate MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin. The game starts at 7 p.m. EDT.

Tomorrow, Halifax plays Saskatoon. On Monday, Portland and London go head-to-head.
