Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I am your host, Travis Yost.

On Friday, three finalists for the NHL's Jack Adams Award, given to the head coach who contributed most to his team's success.

The first nominee, Chicago's Joel Quenneville, led his Blackhawks team to the Presidents' Trophy after a 36-7-5 season. The team averaged 1.60 standings points per game in 2012-2013, a marked improvement over last year's 1.23 average. The Blackhawks were powered by the league's most impressive GF/GA ratio, averaging 3.1 goals per game, and yielding just 2.0 per.

The second nominee, Ottawa's Paul MacLean, led the Senators to their second consecutive playoff berth under his reign. MacLean was able to overcome the absence of many key players, including Jason Spezza, Erik Karlsson, Milan Michalek, Craig Anderson, and Jared Cowen. MacLean is the first coach since Terry Crisp to finish as a finalist for the award in his first two seasons as head coach.

The final nominee, Anaheim's Bruce Boudreau, buried last year's ugly 80-point (34-36-12) season by grabbing the second overall seed in the Western Conference. And, in the overall standings, Anaheim jumped from 25th to 3rd. Additionally, it was just Anaheim's second Pacific division title, the first coming back in 2006-2007.
