Team Russia had the better team on paper, but USA brought scissors.

The United States eliminated Russia from the World Hockey Championships as they easily disposed of them in an 8-3 win. Team USA will move on to the Semi's while Ilya Kovalchuk, Andrei Loktionov and the rest of the Russian team are done playing hockey until preseason begins in September.

- Kovalchuk was the leading scorer in the tournament but failed to get on the scoresheet in today's 8-3 loss which was key for the United States.

- The other Devils player on the team, Andrei Loktionov, didn't play despite Russia dressing 13 forwards. Not sure what that's about but Loktionov had been playing on a line with Kovalchuk and they were having tons of success, so I'm not sure why Russia's coach felt the need to alter the lineup in an elimination game.

- Ryan Carter recorded his first two points of the tournament and was named Player of the Game as he scored a short handed goal and added an assist in over 18 minutes of ice.

- Fellow countryman and Devils teammate, Stephen Gionta, had two shots but was pointless in just over 15 minutes of ice time.

- Kovalchuk and Loktionov weren't the only Devils players eliminated from the WHC today. Defenseman Marek Zidlicky and his Czech team lost to the Swiss, 2-1, in a quarter final matchup this morning. Zidlicky played a game-high 30:03 and had 45 shifts in the loss. He was -1.
