The Maple Leafs have forced a seventh and deciding game with a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins at Air Canada Center Sunday night.

Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel scored third period goals and James Reimer made 29 saves.

The Leafs were able to stay alive in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Boston Bruins with a 2-1 victory at TD Garden Friday night, relying on team speed, opportunistic scoring and clutch goaltending from James Reimer.

They will need the same effort and perhaps more against the more seasoned and experienced Bruins in Game 6 Sunday at Air Canada Center if they hope to force a seventh and deciding game back in Boston Monday night.

Toronto has failed to take advantage on home ice, with a sloppy, turnover laden 5-2 loss in Game 3 and a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime defeat in Game 4.

The psychological advantage and pressure going into Game 6 will be more on the favored Bruins, but they will likely come out early in the game with the comparable level of ferocity that they displayed in the last 15 minutes of the third period of Game 5, hoping to deflat the young Maple Leafs and the home crowd.

Toronto needs to continue to get secondary offensive production as they have in the last two games. Boston was able to shut down both James van Riemsdyk and Phil Kessel, but Tyler Bozak, Cody Franson and Clarke MacArthur combined for four of the five Toronto goals in Games 4 and 5.

While there are no indications that the Leafs will make any lineup changes from the group that won on Friday, the Bruins will be making at least one switch for Game 6.

Defenseman Andrew Ference did not travel with the Bruins to Toronto on Saturday and will not play in Game 6 due to an unspecified injury. Ference missed Game 2 of the series due to suspension for a head hit on Mikhail Grabovski and Boston was forced to shake up their defensive pairings, which contributed to the Leafs evening the series.

Veteran blueliner Wade Redden did not play on Friday but did skate with the club on Saturday and at the Air Canada Center Sunday morning, but his status remains a game time decision.

If Redden does play, Bruins will have the option of either Matt Bartkowski or Dougie Hamilton to put in place of Ference, with both starting if Redden cannot go.

Either way, more of a burden will be placed on the pairing of Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg tonight, which will probably encourage the Leafs forecheckers to lay the body on the shutdown pair as much as possible.

Will update with lineups just before gametime
