Former Buffalo Sabres assistant coach, James Patrick, told the Buffalo News that he will always cherish the time that he spent in Buffalo.

"I was lucky to be here for 14 years," Patrick said by phone. "I love Buffalo and I love the Sabres. I was just so lucky to be able to work with great people, especially Lindy. To me, Lindy was the spirit and heart and soul of the Sabres, and to learn from him and work with him was such a great experience."

Patrick was skipped over as the interim head coach when his friend and mentor Lindy Ruff was fired on February 20. Patrick paid his dues by playing in the NHL and then served as an assistant coach. He signed to play in Buffalo in 1998. He left Buffalo after the 2003-04 season, then played in Germany in 2005-06. He joined Lindy Ruff's coaching staff in 2006-07.

I'm wondering if Patrick is being blamed for two consecutive terrible seasons by Tyler Myers.

Look for Patrick to re-surface again on an NHL bench. I'm told that 'Jeep"and Lindy Ruff will be reunited in the near future.

On Thursday, at the IIHF World Championships, the underdog French squad defeated the super power Russians. The win marks the first time in international play that the French have defeated the Russians. Anything is possible at the Worlds.

Sabres prospect, Zemgus Girgensons, said after his Latvian squad soundly defeated the Slovaks that he and his teammates used the French win over the Russians as motivation for their battle against Reggie Sekera and Team Slovakia.

Grigo, Buffalo used the 14th overall pick in the 2012 NHL entry draft to select the Latvian power forward.

Get a load of his goal (PPG, 3rd Latvian goal).

More changes to the Sabres' coaching staff?

Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News has tweeted that the Sabres have fired assistant coaches James Patrick and Kevyn Adams.Teppo Numminen will be retained.

On Tuesday, Darcy Regier officially introduced Ron Rolston as Sabres head coach. At the presser, RR was asked about his coaching staff. He opted not no divulge information, rather he said that he would be evaluating his staff this week and that he would be finalizing his cabinet shortly.

Its been speculated all week that Rolston will be promoting Chadd Cassidy from Rochester to the Buffalo bench. Cassidy took over the Amerks' head coaching reigns when Rolston took over for ruff in Buffalo in mid-February.

Patrick is a Lindy Ruff confidante and will likely follow Ruff to the next NHL city that he coaches in, be it Denver, Dallas, Vancouver, or another NHL city.

Adams' PP units in Buffalo have been ranked at the bottom of the NHL rankings the past two seasons.

The name of Brian Rolston was raised at the Rolston presser. Brian is the seven year younger brother of Ron, who recently filed his retirement papers with the NHL.

Ron wouldnt hire his kid brother, who has zero coaching experience. Would he?
