With the regular season over and the first round matchups of the 2013 NHL playoffs determined, the Calgary Flames have packed their bags, emptied their lockers and readied themselves for their summer off.
Not much is expected to happen with respect to the Flames as the playoffs commence, however this upcoming summer could be quite busy for Flames management as they try and decide what further needs to be done to their roster in preparation for next season. A few vets such as Cammalleri appears to be in a situation where he may want out in order to better utilize his experience and skills, although keeping guys like him around while rebuilding could also be quite helpful as the youth transition their games to the pro level.
There are going to be several names discussed throughout the course of the summer, and even moreso as the draft approaches. It is no secret the GM Jay Feaster is going to look to make a big splash by either drafting the next potential franchise player, or make a few moves to improve his long term goals. Either way, expect the Flames to be busy this offseason.
Moving onto more current events…I thought it would be fun to lay out my 2013 playoff predictions and discuss them a little. This year may be a little more straight forward than previous years have displayed, though I could see one or two upsets making for some rather interesting series.

Here’s how I think things will go down…what about you guys?
1st round Eastern Conference
Pittsburgh vs Islanders --> Pittsburgh in 5

Boston vs Toronto --> Boston in 6
1st round Western Conference
Chicago vs Minnesota --> Chicago in 6
Anaheim vs Detroit --> Anaheim in 5
Vancouver vs San Jose --> Vancouver in 6
St Louis vs Los Angeles --> St Louis in 7
2nd round Eastern Conference
Pittsburgh vs Ottawa -->Pittsburgh in 5
Boston vs Rangers --> Boston in 6
2nd round Western Conference
Chicago vs St Louis --> Chicago in 7
Anaheim vs Vancouver --> Anaheim in 6
Semi Finals
Pittsburgh vs Boston --> Pittsburgh in 7
Chicago vs Anaheim --> Chicago in 5
Finals
Pittsburgh vs Chicago --> Pittsburgh in 7
I know…way to predict the two top seeded teams to make the finals! But I tried to assess which potential series could upset each team and I just don’t think any of the bottom 7 seeded teams from either side could knock out the Penguins or Hawks…they’ve just been far too good!
That’s all for today folks…thanks for reading!
