Quebec Announcement Coming? 32 Teams? |

When the Quebec people were starting work on a new state-of-the-art arena years back the word on the street was they had several conversations with the NHL prior to beginning construction. I believed in then and I believe it now: The NHL is returning to Québec and it is inevitable.
The people of Quebec City are among the most rabid hockey fans on the planet. I remember the interview I did for our show with Marty Biron back when he was with the Flyers...and asking him what his favorite team was growing up and he didn't hesitate to say the Nordiques...
The Habs/Nords rivalry became epic in only a very few short years.
Now today, I was just informed by a source that there looms a very good possibility we will hear some sort of announcement the NHL is returning to Quebec.
"It's not if, but rather when," the source continued, "it's about timing for the NHL. But it is coming..."
The question is will it be a team relocating or part of an announcement about the NHL going to 32 teams. My instinct, and my hope, is that it is the latter... The NHL's realignment being famously short-term is a big time tell. There is a great deal of nervousness about the big Cap drop next season, and we are in for a wacky summer of trades because of it...Gaborik was the tip of that iceberg.
But the NHL still needs to decide whether it needs to "see stability" or try to create a stability through expansion.
Either way it is very exciting to hear from many sources Québec will once again house an NHL team in the future.
More to come
