Tonight the Calgary Flames will host the Canucks at the Saddledome in their last meeting of the season.

With respect to the lines, forwards Juri Hudler and Brian McGrattan aren’t confirmed to be back in the lineup tonight and apparently Matt Stajan is injured as well. The Flames have recalled Blair Jones from the Abbotsford Heat whosome fans aren’t in favor of, but he is big and he plays with a lot of heart. Calgary needs a center and so far calling on Horak and Reinhart has paid off.

It’s their first of two at home as the Flames end their 2013 regular season, and although most fans don’t want to see the Flames win, playing tough and making Vancouver work for the win is still very important.

As discussed yesterday, I will be continuing my write ups on the potential top five draft selections for the 2013 NHL draft. Yesterday we covered Jonathon Drouin and went over the reasons I felt he could be a good decision for the Flames, but also why I felt he may be overlooked. Next up, I will briefly go over Seth Jones.

Analysts are projecting Seth Jones to be 1st out of the gate at the draft this year and for good reason; he’s a big defenseman who can play the puck quickly, get involved offensively, and he’d be a big addition to any team.

To add to his intrigue, there is a big argument in Calgary to draft a defender, especially after recently trading Jay Bouwmeester, although replacing the veteran will require a specific and talented player. Question is, does Jones have the potential to become the all-star offensive defender that the Flames need? That being said, Calgary’s defense as of late has been rather weak, so the addition of Jones is more than welcomed.

There is so much depth in this year’s draft that it’s going to be a difficult decision; these guys are so young that only time will tell if they can continue their success beyond the NHL draft. The Flames defense has been so poor that they will certainly need a top defender soon, but they have long been seeking a top line center as well.

Another aspect to understand with respect to draft choices is that players with similar value as Jones for the Flames might be worth more down the line in a trade, particularly with Colorado because they seem to have their eyes on the defender.

That’s all for today, thanks for reading!
