Oilers Improve the Defense in Four Steps

Here's my plan today if I'm Steve Tambellini:

Step 1: Apparently defenseman Jamie McBain and Carolina Head Coach Kirk Muller don't get along. With the Pitkanen injury yesterday, the 'Canes could use two defensemen in return. The Oilers have eight D with the team, so they can make a 2 for 1 here. Oilers offer Ryan Whitney and Corey Potter to the Hurricanes for McBain.

Step 2: Oilers deal for Ben Bishop, offering their 2nd round pick in 2013 and Ryan Jones. With all the injuries the Senators have, Jones would be a quality utility player to add.

Step 3: The Oilers deal Nikolai Khabibulin for a 3rd round pick (or better) to anyone.

Step 4: The Oilers move a number of assets to the Islanders for defenseman Mark Streit. Let's say, ummm, Mark Fistric, a 2nd round pick, and a conditional 2nd round pick based on Streit re-signing.

This would make the Oilers on the back end as follows:

D1: Streit - Justin Schultz
D2: Smid - Petry
D3: Nick Schultz - McBain

G1: Dubnyk
G2: Bishop

The Oilers really need to hire me to become the GM, because this team would be amazing. Add Oscar Klefbom to the mix next Fall, and WOW!

Get on it, Tambellini. Just as I've written it out.
