As per Bob McKenzie, the Sabres have traded defenseman Jordan Leopold to the Blues. In return, Buffalo have acquired a 2nd round pick and a conditional 5th round pick in the 2013 draft.
Blues’ radio host Andy Strickland reports the 5th round pick will turn into a fourth round pick if the Blues win a playoff series this season.
This was Leopold's 3rd season in Buffalo, tallying 67 points in 174 games with the Sabres.
With the Penguins winning today against the Islanders, their winning streak has hit 15 straight. Their next opponent will be Buffalo on Tuesday night. After Philadelphia's win over Boston, the Sabres dropped to 14th in the Eastern Conference, but remain just four points out of the 8th spot.
I know many are rooting for a last place finish, but if Buffalo wins tonight and the Rangers lose to Montreal, the Sabres will be two points out and possibly in 10th place. It's amazing what one game can do and really shows you how important these games are in a shortened season.
The Sabres have three games left before the trade deadline, and Jordan Leopold was just traded to St. Louis today.
I'll be in the press box for the next four Sabres home games.
