I know what you guys want. So here's the new rumor first.

Sort of a semi-vague rumor out of the East Coast this morning that the Hawks are talking to the Sabres about a possibly big deal involving (but not limited to) the following names: Dave Bolland, Viktor Stalberg, Steve Ott and Marcus Foligno.

After cross checking this rumor with a strong source in Canada, it was confirmed that there have been or are talks with Buffalo, but the source felt they might—might— center around Robyn Regehr.

Keep watching this one. One player I would definitely think is involved in any Hawk trade discussions is Stalberg. This morning I heard extensive discussions with his agent are "going nowhere."

As for Iginla, i wish I could share the definitive narrative of what actually went down—and especially vis a vis the Hawks. I do believe the Hawks' unwillingness to add a first round pick was the thing that either excluded them completely or put them at the back of the line with Jay Feaster. There is also pretty strong evidence that the possibility of Iginla signing an extension (with the Hawks or any other suitor) or not was a major factor until Wednesday or so.

I will also say the Hawks unwillingness to part with the pick likely means they feel there will be some very good players available toward the end of Round 1 in this draft.

THE BUZZ

Hey, amid all the trade talk, there's a hockey game tonight at the UC. And it's kind of a big one.

The Hawks get the chance to even the ledger against the Ducks in the third and last game they play this season. The Hawks will be without Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp again as they rehab shoulders. Both are skating but not taking contact yet.

Ray Emery holds the net tonight for the second straight game, facing Viktor Fasth at the other end. Emery was tight and efficient—moving very well— the other night in a 2-0 shutout of the Flames.

MORE LATER,

JJ
