Since I'm late to the party today, newer updates will be at the bottom of the page today, not the top. Switching it up for a 5 pm Sunday game.

Looks like a packed house for the last Sunday game of this current homestand for the New York Islanders. Not sure how many are there to see the superheros though.

Through forty minutes of play the only hero on the ice is the one with the lone goal, Andy MacDonald. An early power play goal gave the Isles the early lead and there it has stayed as the teams head to the locker rooms at the end of two.

Casey Cizikas has been hitting everything he could and playing a very physical game. Even John Tavares was hitting. He probabaly didn't need to, but it's nice that he can.

A little scary moment when Visnovsky limped off the ice after the first period, but he was back out for the second and doesn't look like he's missing a step.

Nabokov said he needed to be better and so far, he has been. The question will be, can he remain strong in the third. The entire team needs to play desperate for the third period and right now, it's do or die.

Brent Thompson: Saying he knows they can win with one goal, but they shouldn't sit on it, "We have to do the right things to get another goal."

7:02 pm: the only goal scorer tonight so far is now sitting in the box after taking a holding penalty early in the third period.

Colin McDonald is credited with 8 hits in the first two periods and Matt Martin five.

Panthers manage two shots on goal during their power play and a little scary moment crowding Nabby's crease. No goals.

7:36 pm: An important win for the Islanders and the third shut out for Evgeni Nabokov as both John Tavares and Casey Cizikas get empty net goals and the Islanders keep the Panthers from scoring to tie the game or gaining on them.

Isles now with 31 points behind the Rangers and Canes. Markstrom third star, AMac the second and Nabokov the 1st star of the game.

Chiefs jersey in the stands by the glass -- awesome. Rangers jersey by the glass at an Islaes game -- dumb.

This is Nabby's 55th shutout of his career. I'm certain his agent just added a few numbers to his asking price for another season.

Oh, In Bridgeport -- Rick DiPietro won another game for the Sound Tigers.

A tweet from the NYIslanders official feed:

Tavares: we needed a win. Games are starting to quickly tick down. Good to finish it the right way in time for a big road trip. We stuck with it. We seemed to keep moving and keep it tough. Excited to be getting back on track. #Isles

Capuano was once again happy with his team, but this time he was rightfully so. Good goaltending and a physical team. There shouldn't be a question about "battle level." But the Panthers were, as Howie put it, "Ripe for the pickin'."

They have to be able to pull off these wins against teams that are better than they are.

He mentioned again, they played well enough to win the Pittsburgh game. It's still bothering him. And it should.

"Collectively the four lines were going and our D was moving the puck. We played a North game and it was good."

"Overall we won the wall battles. We did some good things." So, maybe all those videos are paying off?
