Who's Kidding Whom?

There's so much going on within the dynamics of the Flyers, it's almost impossible to single out any, other thing as being more important than the other.

The goalie, who is exhausted and who's play has dropped considerably since Feb. 7, calls out the team, then says 2 losses to the Devils this week and the team is "done" for the playoffs.

The young captain, who is largely going by the book in dealing with the media and not exactly being as forthright as others, disagrees and won't quit on the playoffs.

The wiley veteran with the long, red locks, says the videos lowlights of each loss are so bad, it's embarrassing and maybe everyone nees to see up close and personal "how bad" this team really is.

The GM and club president publicly endorse the coach while the owner is conspicuously silent on him which means ... the owner reserves the right to blow a gasket and fire the coach when he sees fit.

If the Flyers lose Friday to the Devils and then lose again Monday night in Tampa, it seems reasonable that regardless of what everyone is saying "on the record," coach Peter Laviolette is gone.

It's not his fault. Not all of it, anyway. A LARGE portion of responsibility goes to GM Paul Holmgren. The Flyers fictional belief that they could land all 3 big-time free agents last summer was laughable.

Doesn't work like that, anymore. Most of the problems with this team can be traced to the club really kidding itself into believing Ryan Suter and Zach Parise would come here and that Nashville would never match Shea Weber after losing Suter.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Holmgren ripped the players a new one today and complained loudly about what I have been saying for weeks - a lack of "compete." Holmgren also gave Laviolette a vote of confidence.

Which means nothing to Ed Snider if he deems it's time to make a change.
