Reports: Islanders Putting Dipietro on Waivers. A Precursor?

More to come..the Islanders are up to something with this. Sending Dipietro to the AHL only removes $900,000 of his cap hit under the new CBA rules. Also doesn't that defeat the purpose of the Tim Thomas paper acquisition? What team would WILLFULLY choose to have about $9 million in dead cap space tied up in goalies who won't be playing for them? Waiving DiPietro negates any benefit of not having to actually pay Thomas.
