The more things change, the more things stay the same.

New Jersey Devils President and General Manager, Lou Lamoriello, announced via conference call that the Devils have acquired veteran forward and former Devil Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2013 draft and a 4th round pick in the 2014 draft.

This trade makes sense on a few levels. Dainius Zubrus will have wrist surgery tomorrow so the Devils add a healthy body in Ponikarovsky to fill the void. The price wasn't steep, and he's proven he can play in Pete DeBoer's system.

Ponikarovsky was very good as a Devil last year racking up 18 points in 32 regular season games and nine points in 24 playoff games.

I'll have more on this in tomorrow's post.
