Leafs winger Matt Frattin will not be available for at least a week, according to coach Randy Carlyle.

The 25 year old winger is undergoing a procedure to clean up some of the damage left on the knee that was surgically reconstructed last May, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

Frattin is second on the team with seven goals in 10 games.

Jay McClement has moved up from the fourth line to play with Clarke MacArthur and Nazem Kadri, which may mean that David Steckel will play between Colton Orr and Fraser McLaren tomorrow night against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh.

In the wake of the prognosis on James Reimer’s left knee, the Maple Leafs have opted to recall goaltender Jussi Rynnas, rather than looking outside of the organization for someone to back up Ben Scrivens.

The 25 year old Rynnas has played 17 games for the AHL Toronto Marlies, with a 8-8-0-1 record, 2.57 GAA and .913 save percentage.

Rynnas made 25 saves on Tuesday in the Marlies 3-2 loss to Hamilton at Copps Coliseum.

There had been speculation that the Leafs might address the backup goaltending situation by adding a veteran free agent like Dwayne Roloson or Brent Johnson, but after Kyle Cicerella of Canadian Press reported that the organization had brought in former Rochester goalie Drew MacIntyre to bolster the AHL club, the promotion of Rynnas was a foregone conclusion.

Reimer had an MRI performed yesterday and the injury was determined to be a strained medial collateral ligament, which according to a statement released by the team, will keep the 24 year old goaltender out at least one week.

The bulk of the Leafs goaltending workload will be placed on Scrivens, who made 32 saves in the final 36 minutes against the Flyers to earn the game’s first star. If the best case scenario plays out and Reimer returns within a week, then there will be little burden on Scrivens since there are days off in between games against Carolina, Ottawa and Florida.

If the club is being optimistic with the time frame for Reimer’s return and he is out for two to three weeks, then it is likely that Rynnas will see action, as the Leafs have two sets of back to back games in February; against Florida and Tampa on the 18th and 19th and Montreal and the NY Islanders on the 27th and 28th.
