Adam Pardy has been called up from Rochester and will make his Sabres debut tomorrow night against Ottawa.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 4, 2013) --- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that defenseman Adam Pardy has been recalled from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

Pardy (3/29/84, 6'4", 226 lbs) will join the Sabres for the first time this season after recording three points (1+2) and a plus-3 rating in five AHL games with the Americans. The Bonavista, Newfoundland native was acquired from the Dallas Stars with forward Steve Ott on July 2. In four NHL seasons, Pardy has recorded 29 points (4+25) and 157 penalty minutes in 183 games with the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars. -Buffalo Sabres

This morning, the Sabres had an optional skate and the results were not good.

A handful of Sabres sat the skate out. Normally, that would not be a big deal. Once Lindy Ruff spoke, we would realize the news isn't good.

Also, Lindy Ruff spoke about a few players who have been injured.

Patrick Kaleta is almost ready to get back on the ice and continue his progression back from a neck injury suffered against Toronto. There still is no timetable for him but the news is obviously positive.

Not so positive is the status of Ville Leino.

Leino, who has missed every game this season, still fails to progress with his hip injury. He will try a new form of treatment, but for the first time, Lindy Ruff admitted that there is doubt as to whether Leino will play this season.

Just a side note, if Leino was to miss the entire season he would still be an amnesty candidate, as long as he was healthy before the end of the season. If Leino was to be placed on long-term injured reserve, he could not be bought out.

On a brighter note, the NHL has officially named Thomas Vanek the first star of the week. This is a well-deserved honor after he scored 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in four games this week. -Ryan Wolfe, Sabres Hockey Central

Here is today's mailbag. There were plenty of negative and frustrated fans asking questions about the coaching, so most of this turned into a Lindy Ruff debate.

Sometimes I feel like a one man island but I dislike Sekera extremely. Almost every time he touches the puck it seems he loses it. I understand offensively he is a worthy commodity but isn't it time to see that worthy commodity in another uniform for some sort of return?

There's not many positives to look at on the team right now, let alone defensively. I do think that a trade should be made. Even though no one is really playing well on defense, I'd trade a defenseman, a prospect and a couple of picks for a scoring center or forward. We can't rely on the first line every game. We simply cannot do it.

Is there ever a chance that Lindy Ruff will no longer be coaching in Buffalo? I know Terry Pegula had said that "Lindy ain't goin' nowhere" in his time here, and with the Regier extension I think that solidifies that statement.

Unfortunately, I feel like you may be right. I've been a fan of Ruff and have backed him up, but in the last couple of years, I have wanted him to go more and more. The Sabres haven't won a playoff series in six years, and we've been to the Finals once. There is talent here. It's not like we don't have good players. Maybe it is his coaching style or his system, but many of us are getting frustrated watching a mediocre team, and having the same coach.

If it were any other team, Ruff would have been fired long ago. I think we're too patient with him and the inner fan in Pegula doesn't want to let him go. We've changed players. We've changed owners. The results have been the same. I think it may be time for a coaching change.

Why does Darcy keep getting extensions. For every good move anyone says he does, I can name five bad moves. He has ignored the Center position for 4 seasons now and when he does try to address the position, he signs Leino for 4 million. I feel bad for Darcy, he is forced to play the lack of talent Darcy keeps bringing in here.

I've actually began to like Darcy more than Ruff. Regier has made some bad moves, but they are not entirely his fault. I like the signing of Leino originally, but that just hasn't been working out. The same goes for Brad Boyes, and I think he'll do much better with the Islanders. Then the Cody Hodgson trade (and Sulzer). That one is actually going well.
He's brought in Bernier, Zubrus and Torres...all not working out.
I don't disapprove of those players he's brought in, but they simply don't work when they get here. I don't know if it's the players of the coaching. And you can't ignore the young players in the system right now. Regier has drafted some good talent.
Like I read yesterday, the Sabres have some very good puzzle pieces, but they are from different puzzles.

I have never disliked Ruff like most impatient buffalo fans who have an answer to everything after every time the sabres disappoint. But im starting to really see a pattern of players not being able to play for him under his system or develop the way they are predicted due to his systems. what bothers me is he wants to always have his players used in a way that is a perfect team in his head in stead of making necessary adjustments to utilize certain talents, Boyes and Leino are just recent examples and im worried Grego will have the same problem by developing to what ruff likes instead of what he is capable of, Ruff builds a team around a system (Which is hard to get all the right pieces for) instead of building a system around a team.

I agree with this. Add this to what I had to say in Broc's question above.

Instead of freaking out over our bad start, shouldn't we be realizing there is a lot of young talent coming up the pipe (Armia, Girgs, Grigo, Brennan, Pysyk...), Ennis, Myers and Hodgeson are all wee lads and even Vanek and Pominville are not even 30 yet...

My point is, clearly the team is re-tooling, not necessarily rebuilding and has a bright YOUNG future. I personally think the problem is Ruff. 15 years and his message is falling on deaf ears and a new coach to go along with this young team would be very beneficial in my opinion. As for who could replace him, I would have liked Dineen but that ship has sailed.

Do you concur? (My apologies for a long, rambling post. Santa has a lot of free time right now....)

We've had talent here, but yes, there are young players that have a bright future. But they've been getting here and just slowing down. This is where I believe the problem with Ruff is.
