Finally Newsday on Twitpic

What a nice surprise to see this photo gracing the back cover of Newsday today. It's not every day that Isles fans get this from their home town paper. But today is different.

I'm not trying to get ahead of oursevles here, but you have to get a little excited at seeing the Islanders neck-and-neck for the top of the conference standings. I admit, I didn't expect a win. But maybe I should keep that up. I love surprises.

But they seem to be clicking. They seem to be staying 'within their system.' Of course there was those lapses in judgement when Kyle Okposo couldn't manage a clear that kept the Isles scrambling around the Devils in their own zone, but Jack can work on that.

A three point night for John Tavares who just gets better every game. The emergence of Casey Cizikas as a work horse and the smarts of waiver wire pick-up Keith Aucoin make this year's Islanders that much more special.

But there is one more thing to ponder. I received an email from Neil Mairs this morning highlighting the game winner by Brad Boyes. This is what he had to say:

Watch the Boyes goal - it was a better play than he's being credited for. Watch it again - he lifts Brodeur's stick to disrupt the original clearing pass which leads to JT's shot, then the ultimate game winning goal. Not lucky - he made it happen - havent heard anyone else mention it yet.

Maybe, just maybe -- we won't be fooled again.

*And a special thank you to HockeyBuzz Eric for the awesome new photos of Evgeni Nabokov. :o)
