News coming down the pipe just now that the Oilers have acquired defenseman Mark Fistric from the Dallas Stars for a 3rd round draft pick.

Fistric is exactly what the Oilers were looking for as a defensive upgrade: He's younger (26) left-handed, big (6' 2", 233), a defensive defenseman, and he's local (born in Edmonton). Fistric is also a reasonable cap hit: $1.475mil this season. He's set to become a UFA this summer, although I could absolutely see the Oilers offering him a contract extension if he plays well. He'll play 5/6 minutes this season, likely being paired with Ryan Whitney.

3rd round pick to improve the 5/6 pair for this season? Yes, please. I love this deal.

This move indicates fairly clearly the future of Theo Peckham and Colten Teubert in Edmonton. Worded another way, see ya. Corey Potter will be kept as the #7 guy. My guess is Teubert goes back to the AHL and Peckham will be dealt for the best return possible.

This is the type of move I indicated the Oilers would make before the start of the season. So the question now: Are there more to come?
