Noon: In the "No, Really?" Department, it seems the Islanders made arrangements for Lubomir Visnovsky to head to Long Island and what do you know -- HE DIDN'T SHOW UP. Wow! I didn't see that coming, did you?

Ooppss, almost forgot, according to Art Staple Jesse Joennsuu has a groin issue and Josh Bailey had his knee scoped. He'll be out 2 - 4 weeks.

Hey... Just like old times!

8 am: It seems with the NHLPA vote closing of 8:01 am today, the 'official' word may not be out quick enough for the players to return to their camps for physicals today. Therefore, it looks like physicals will begin on Sunday and camp for the New York Islanders will 'officially' begin on MONDAY. Oh, look. Don Fehr has made sure they lost yet another day.

I should have webstreamed last night's Bridgeport Sound Tigers game when the third period started. It was the return of Travis Hamonic and Brock Nelson, but the first two periods were dismal with Providence racking up five goals against the CT boys.

All looked lost. I Tweeted out "Someone find the NET!" as the third period started and miraculously it seemed they heard me. The Sound Tigers exploded for a four goal comeback, including one from Hamonic, but they couldn't get that fifth goal to send the game to overtime and a possible win.

None the less, it was a wonderful show of fortitude in the face of adversity and I really respect what Scott Pellerin and company did in those final 20 minutes.

Okay, back to Uniondale. I had the opportunity to go to Iceworks yesterday, but the paying job got in the way. I wish I had, but I thank the hockey Gods for the Islanders staff and their ITV cameras for some excellent footage, especially this five minute piece with John Tavares. Have you seen it?

While Newsday's Art Staple was tweeting out quotes from JT as they were happening, and I'd like to thank you for that Artie, I think he left out one HUGE quote somewhere around the 5:13 mark of this interview.

John Tavares mentioned the fans and those who made their living off this great game he plays and what it meant for them to lose so much. "Will we ever be able to make up for it? Probably not."

It's nice that he'd like to try.

John Tavares, like so many others who played in Europe, will be in better shape for this sprint of a season. We may see a lot of injuries early on in this condensed schedule. But the players feel it will all even out after the first few weeks when players get back into their usual routine.

Check out all the great videos by the ITV team on the Islanders main website.
