There have been a million rumors surrounding Roberto Luongo since the goaltender made it known he wanted out and didn't want to sit the bench behind Cory Schneider...

This summer, in the days before the lockout hit (feels like a million years ago) there were discussions involving Luongo possibly heading to Florida or Toronto...but the price was really high and neither team was willing to give up so much for a player with such a high cap hit.

I had continually heard Florida as a leading candidate, but the combination of the high price and the fact the Panthers have really strong young goalies in their system meant the Panthers could afford to wait and see if the price were to fall.

There is pressure on the Leafs to make the playoffs for certain, but this is also a case where the Leafs were willing to wait for the price to fall too...

Now enter the shortened NHL season with its compressed schedule and the ability to buy out Luongo this summer and....everything has now changed.

Talking to people around the NHL there is a big feeling backup goalies will be playing a major part in the compressed season. Every point matters and it may just make more sense for Vancouver to hold onto Luongo or if they do move him they will need to get a serviceable backup as part of the deal.

One source told me Toronto has interest, but not immediately, and if they were to move for Luongo they would also like to grab Mason Raymond as part of the deal. If the Canucks are to get serious return for Luongo and his salary I could see Raymond playing a big part in any deal...

If you are looking for Western suitors you may need to look no further then Chicago and/or Edmonton...But the Canucks would much prefer to move Luongo out-of-conference...

Is there another team in the East with interest? The only team I have heard even with a small curiousity is Boston..but only as a contingency plan....and a lot more would have to happen first....

stay tuned...

Also there WILL be HockeyBuzz Super League Fantasy this season! Waiting for official schedules, etc. Check back often for details on sign up etc.
Thanks!
