Sound Tigers Deliver Cheer

Each year, the NY Islanders and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers deliver toys to children who may not make it home for Christmas. It's a wonderful experience for the children undergoing treatment in hospitals and a humbling experience for the players.

Perhaps this year, in light of the recent events in the Sound Tiger's own backyard, it held a little more significance. These little lives are so fragile and innocent and a hospital is such a cold frightening place. The players not only delivered toys, but smiles and memories that will last a lifetime.

As all the tri-state area sports teams are doing, the Sound Tigers will also be honoring those who fell on 12-14-12 in Sandy Hook by wearing commemorative helmet stickers as well has having "S.H.E.S 12-14-12" painted into the ice for the remainder of the season at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Green ribbons will also be worn as a small reminder of the tragedy.

They say those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it. That is true not only for such horrid events as we witnessed on Friday morning, but also the cold war between the NHL and the NHLPA. It seems as if we are doomed to repeat another lost season -- or worse.

With the two sides now bringing about law suits, this mess will only be more tangled and contentious. Bill Daly sounded exhausted and out of hope yesterday on SiriusXM's NHL Network Radio. A representative of the NHLPA was asked if the idea of having the vote to disband the PA was such a good tactice, why didn't Bob Goodenow use it in 1994 to end the labor strife, there was no answer.

Because the answer is -- this is now just a pissing match with no winner in sight.
